English Language Challenges

Hello, this is the last blog of the semester and I will speak of English.

My experience of learning English at the university has been good, I feel that I have improved my level of English, but I feel that I need to learn much more. When I enrolled at the university, I had to give a test and was assigned to English II, so I have had 3 levels of English during the semester, all with sympathetic teachers and with different teaching techniques.

The first teacher was Rosa Zagal and she was very kind, I learned with her the phrase "piece of cake" and I loved it, then in English III I was with Victor Rubio and he worried a lot that we learn “speaking”, that's why we talked all the class in English and he corrected us. Finally, Professor Alejandro Vilca has been quite interactive, and I have also learned how to pronounce in a better way.

Using blogs has been a very good experience, I have practiced my writing a lot and I have been able to know many words, it´s also very funny because in the blogs they talk about many topics and one can get to know our classmates better. 

I think I need to improve "speaking" because I have trouble to saying a few words, that's why I pretend to practice in the summer with English courses online and watching movies and repeating some phrases.

Currently, English is a very important language, and not only do I occupy English classes, but also when I watch movies and videos, I listen to songs, and when I read press articles and research papers. I mean, I often in my everyday life I occupy the English.

Reflexion On My Study Program

Hi, today I am going to talk about the changes that I would make to my study program.

The curriculum is quite possible to improve because it has several shortcomings and inconsistencies, for example, many times they teach us the same in different branches and do not talk about really important things. I think it´s not necessary to mention the same things so many times, we are students capable of retaining information, I feel is more necessary add more practical courses in the curriculum, it is true that there are several, but I feel that it is still missing.

With regard to the workload is not excessive, the semester ends are the most difficult, but the bad thing is that the duration of the studies is very long, I think it is not necessary to be 5 years in undergraduate. I think that university  have to follow the example of other countries with respect to the years of study, I also think that the university should have more facilities with students who want to study abroad, the curriculum should be much more flexible. In addition, the infrastructure of the university is not good, it is somewhat hostile, but we can still get used to it, however, what is very necessary is an elevator and a larger library.

The use of technology within the university is normal, there is free internet and computers available to everyone. Finally, teaching methods are diverse, there are some very good teachers and some bad teachers who do not teach correctly.

What should change is the infrastructure and a higher quality of some teachers.

What is your opinion about women in the military?

I think that women can do whatever they want because they are strong both physically and mentally, women in the militia should have more recognition and be in high hierarchical positions because they have the capacities and shouldn´t be underestimated. Finally, although I disagree with the relevance and money that The State gives the military, I like to see women military because it shows that there is no space for women or only for men

What is your opinion about legalizing marijuana and other drugs?

I agree with the legalization of marijuana, and all the hard drugs that are often trafficked, because drug trafficking is a problem for all countries and has "charged" many lives. If the legislature wants to prevent dangerous drugs from being consumed, education must be fundamental, not its prohibition.

What is your opinion about “barras bravas” (hooligans)?

I don´t like the aggressiveness and violence with which the "barras bravas" are expressed, I consider that there are other ways more effective to support a team, I think that it is not necessary to intimidation other fans because football is a friendly sport that must unite to the people, don't separate them.

What is your opinion about legalizing abortion in some cases?

Women, whether from Chile or the world, should be free to decide for their body, they must have the final decision and not the state, that's why I think abortion should be legalized for all cases. Society must understand that it cannot intervene or judge such a personal and complicated decision because it simply does not belong to this work.

Sports

Hello Everyone!

  In this opportunity I will talk about sports. The favorite sports are soccer, I like a lot playing football and watching matches of the national teams of the different countries, especially of Chile.

  Last semester I went to basketball classes, but I found it boring, the only part I liked was running and trying to score. This semester I attended soccer and volleyball classes, although I'm not very good at playing soccer, I enjoy doing it a lot, I like to run but I do not have very good technique, in regard to volleyball I found it fun, but I like the workouts more than playing matches.

A sport that catches my attention is swimming, I do not practice it officially, but I like to swim, so in the summers I try to swim as much as I can. And a sport that I would want to try is athletics, I do not have much resistance, but I think it can be improved; I like the feeling of freedom that is felt when running and how connected you are with yourself at that moment. I also want to play tennis, I like to watch tennis matches and I would like to be in a tennis court, listen to the song of Lorde called "Tennis Court" and hit the ball with the racket.

  Finally, I must confess, that when I was about 15 years old I wanted to be a cyclist, I bought my helmet and gloves, besides having a very good bike and I started to train alone until I participated in a competition in Curicó, I was doing well until once I turned around too fast and I fell, and a guy made fun of me, I kept cycling despite that with a lot of pain and I arrived in the last place, it was a sad thing and it discouraged me a lot, and I did not keep practicing.

  That has been my experience in sports, I enjoy practicing them because I like to move, and I consider it to be very good for physical and mental health.

Great Goal: Study a PhD

   Today I´m going to talk about the postgraduate studies that I want to take when I finish my studies in Public Administration. I pretend to study a postgraduate doctoral degree (PhD) about Political Science in Columbia University in the City of New York. The political Science in this university includes seminars and workshops that are organized around four primary subfields: American Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations and Political Theory. As a PhD candidate I could choose a major in Political Theory from among the others subfields, besides I could also choose a minor field in Comparative Politics or in Political Methodology. I would like study this full time only because I really want to learn about these subfields and I want to become a good political scientist. In order to start studying in this University I need to accomplished the M. Phil. degree at Columbia and prepare, defend, and deposit a dissertation in accordance with the regulations of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

   I want to study this PhD about Political Science in this university or in other good institution such as Sciences Po in France or at Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona in Spain, because I like the studies of Politics and Policies, doing researches, learning different things and I think that I would like study it abroad with people from other cultures, thereby I would be able to learn from different perspectives.

   I hope to reach this goal or something similar, but if this doesn´t happen don´t matter, I just want to be happy.

My Future Job

Hello

As you know, I am studying public administration therefore I want to work in something related with this area. I think that a good job would be in The Organization of American States (OAE) or United Nations (UN) as adviser of the represent of Chile or autonomous adviser; I would like give advisory in project about public policy, democracy and programs of equality of gender, I imagine travel frequently to different countries to doing researches that are useful to create good public policy with perspective of gender or studying the deficiencies of democratic systems to create solutions to this problem. This job would be on indoors when I have that give adviser and it would be on outdoors when I doing researches, besides that I would like take over the monitoring and evaluating a policy on a country of Latin America. I imagine this job with a flexible schedule with a good salary. For realizing this job I think that I should studying to master of politic science with a specialization in democratic system and after that, obtain a doctor`s degree in politic science, beside that I would like are continuously participating in courses of specialization about of foreign relations.

Well, this is my idea for the moment of a type of job that I would like work in my future, I hope I can do it.

My Career

Hello

    In this occasion, I want to talk about my career: I´m studying public administration at the Universidad de Chile since 2017, before of apply to this career I didn´t know much about this, I had only heard its named two or three times, but it had never really caught my attention. I took the decision of studying this career because I wanted to choose a career that it had a curriculum map with very different topics and the work field was wide. My motivations to go into this career was that interest me a lot development the public function to help others and make good changes for improve the quality of life of the people. I decided study Public Administration when it was time to apply to the university, among my options was studying political science, but I decided to study something more practical as public administration, my first choice of university was the Universidad de Chile, because is categorized as one of the best universities in Chile and it has a very interesting social pluralism, the second was the Universidad de Santiago de Chile and finally, the Universidad de Concepción.

    My experience so far has been quite good, I have learned several things, I have made good friends, I have been surprised with the quality of the teachers and in summary, I have had a good time in this career and university. My favorite subject until now is Political Phenomena because it´s intrinsically related to political science (a discipline that attracts a lot my attention), namely, it is about studying power, which encompasses a lot of different phenomena, I learnt concepts like politic, policy, state, executive, legislative and judicial power, among others. Finally, I want to emphasize that I have learned many things so far, but one of the most important is that teamwork is essential to achieve the objectives and that doing things with motivation and thinking about the common good when acting as a public official is vital to achieve real changes.

Lovely Horses

Hi!

   I have never had a pet like a dog or a cat, because I don´t like cats and dogs don´t really attract my attention, but an animal that I love very much is the horse.

   
   My favorite animal is horse, I love them. I find it great to ride horses and take care of them, since I was born, I had contact with the horses, once I fell from one, but I didn’t cause fear because I felt that it was my fault. When I'm riding with my brother, my father or my uncle, I feel very connected with myself and with them, I'm still learning several techniques on how to ride and ride in a more efficient way. I admire the intelligence of horses, they learn very fast.

   In the field where I live, we had many horses, my favorite was the mare called "Alazana", she was with me for a long time, she was very beautiful, quiet and I liked to ride on it, I also liked the "Mulato", it was a horse very friendly and fast, so I loved to ride fast on it. Currently, we only have one colt called "Embrujo", the Maldadosa mare and her newborn colt called "Encachao".

   When I grow up, I hope I can have more horses, a large field and a big and beautiful barn so that the horses feel comfortable and can continue with this family tradition so beautiful that it represents a pure connection between animals and people.

Memorable Concerts

Hi, again!

   Today I´m going to talk about concerts, in this opportunity I required to me tell which my favorite concert and this decision is hard for me, I can´t choose just one, so I´m talking about two of my favorite concerts. I have gone three concerts until this moment of my life: one was Ricardo´s Arjona, other of Halsey and Lauren Jauregui as lead singer, and for last I went to watch Camila Cabello.

   One of my favorite concerts ever is when I went to watch to Lauren Jauregui with Halsey, this was in Teatro Caupolicán, ubicated in San Diego 850, Santiago, on June 12 This show was amazing, they have an incredible voice and dancing very well, Halsey is an American singer, songwriter and actress, she has been involved in social activism, including suicide prevention awareness and sexual assault, its speech is so powerful, while Lauren Jauregui is a American singer, she was a member of the girl group Fifth Harmony, but she has begun a solo career collaborating with artists as Marian Hill, Halsey, Ty Dolla Sign and Steve Aoki, also she is politically outspoken and actively involved in protests related to feminism and migration. The atmosphere during the concert was amazing, the good vibes are so high, and everyone were expectant for watching to beautiful and powerful women. I´m felt very happy to know to my favorite artists, listening your songs and singing with all my lungs, I enjoyed a lot this show because I went with a friend and both dancing all the time with the different rhythms. Also, I liked the concert because the words of Halsey said motivated me a lot to be happy.

   Other of my best concerts was recently, exactly on October 18 of this year, I went to watch to Camila Cabello, she´s a Cuban-American singer and songwriter, also she was a member of the girl group Fifth Harmony, but Camila began to establish herself as a solo artist with the release of several collaborations and currently, she is mainly a pop and R&B singer, influenced by Latin Music, besides that Cabello had partnered with Save the Children to help raise awareness of issues involving girls equal access to education, health care and opportunities to succeed. This concert was in Movistar Arena and the atmosphere was energetic, I was with two friends and a sister of one of them and we had a lot of fun, we danced, we sang and we ere moved by the word that Camila said during the concert.

   They are my favorite artists, they fight for what they believe, they are good people and they sing very well. I recommend you listen to their music, you will surely love it!

Hello, welcome to my blog!

   

   A country I would like visit is United States. It is known like America and I don´t know why people name it that way there, if it the name of a beautiful continent, not a country. But whatever, this country calls my attention a lot, specially the states of California and New York. Theses states are so different to each other; California is located in the Pacific Region, its state capital is Sacramento and its more famous cities are Los Angeles and San Francisco, this state is considered a global trend in popular culture, innovation and politics. While that New York is a state in the Northeastern United States and their most populous city is New York City, two-thirds of the state´s population lives in this part, and nearly 40% lives on Long Island.

   

   I would love go to United States for studying in the University California, is one of the world´s leading public research universities, located in La Jolla, California, there I want do post-graduate studies like the doctoral program in one of the sub-fields: American politics, comparative politics, international relations, methodology or political theory. After that, I would like to go New York City for working in a public or private department and doing many researches about interesting topics, while that I do classes in the Columbia University.
